Tell us about yourself

My name is Maka, born and bred in Lagos, from Imo, and I’ve got 2 brothers and a mama who raised us
all by herself (we lost our dad as kids to Cancer). I practiced Law for a few years before finally taking the
decision to go into music full time.

What influences the art/music you create?

Life generally influences everything I create. Even if it’s not about me, it has to be something any listener
could relate to.

What genre or style are you sticking to?

I wouldn’t use the word, “sticking to”, but I’m a soulful singer and it’s better to do you and that’s what
I’m doing.

What sparked your interest in making music?

Honestly, I don’t know or remember the moment music sparked my interest. I don’t even think it exists.
I’ve been singing all my life. I come from a musical family.

What projects have you released or planning to release?

2016 – The Truth EP produced by the homie Teckzilla
2017 – a bunch of amazing singles like Sinner ft. Boogey, No One ft. Phlow

2019 – It’s Not You; It’s Me produced by Jay Blakez
2020 – Sometimes It Rains In December produced by M
ōnki Bznzz
2021 – I’ve definitely got something ready to be released, and I’ll officially say it here, it’s titled Love Songs
And Alcohol, and it is produced by Eli DeGreat. So stay tuned.

What keeps you motivated, what is your creative process?

The fact that I have sacrificed a lot to be here keeps me motivated. I’m gonna keep giving it my best.
I don’t really have a creative process per se. I play the keyboard, so I could wake up with a tune in my
head, turn on my keyboard and create something, or I get inspired by the beats my producers send to
me. Either way works.

What more to expect from your brand in the future?

I’m gonna keep growing. More music, more diversity.

Who are you eager to collaborate with?

I’m not eager to work with anyone. If there’s value to be gotten from a collaboration, I’m up for it.

What impact do you plan to leave on society?
